We still have rooms with unpacked boxes. Lots of unpacked boxes. However, I think I've been bitten by the renovation bug. I've started looking at paint colors, furniture, artwork and nicknacks. I have decisions to make. BIG decisions.
The one decision that's keeping me from actually starting is the issue of our 1989 wood trim. Our house has LOTS of wood trim. It's nice wood, but there's lots of it. In some rooms it works. The kitchen works. The family room with its paneling and wood burning stove, to a certain extent, works. It's in the other rooms, the rooms with oodles and oodles of taupe wall paper, where I question whether the trim works. The alternative would be painting the trim white. This is what's in style right now, but I worry about it because once it's done, there's really no going back.
I think what I'm going to have to do is dive into a room. Paint it, decorate it. Once it's done, it should be obvious if the 1989 wood trim is going to work with my sometimes offbeat color palate. I am going to start with the kids' rooms. Other rooms that will get quick attention will be the dining room and formal living room (a.k.a. Christy's office). Soon to follow will be the master bedroom. The kitchen will get a new paint color, nothing else. The basement and hallways will probably be last. Bathrooms are also low on the priority list.
So, I will start with Alice's room. I have found a color I love called "Grape Hyacinth."
And I found some art at Pottery Barn that I'd like to copy somehow.
Who knows when I will actually get the gumption to dive into this project, but I think I am going to be a little bit edgy until I get started. Justin and the kids would probably appreciate it if I started soon!

I bet Grandma Sushi could make quilts just like that artwork.
